Quite a long way out from the village of Cuttthorpe, the Gate can be reached by bus from Dronfield or Chesterfield, but the last half mile involves a walk along the road from the lane leading to Linacre reservoirs, where the bus turns around. For the car drivers amongst you, there's a decent sized car park behind the pub. I presume it must get busy here at times, as there are six hand pumps on the bar and a dining room extension at the side of the original building. Two or three local people called in for a drink while I was here - a wintery Monday afternoon - with my half of Black Sheep Bitter (see photos for other beers). The area around the bar, a square L-shape with exposed stone walls, has bench seating and stools, and there's a very nice fire quite close to the bar; the bar counter is tongue and groove, with a step below and a rail for elbows. I rather liked it here, and there are certainly some grand views of the countryside.

Beautiful location with fantastic country views, inside well kept with good atmosphere and a choice of beers. The resteraunt however is overpriced for the adequate quality of food and the less than adequate service. They are charging resteraunt prices, but giving pub service
