A lively pub with six handpumps serving a changing range of ales - the Siren Broken Dream was very nice indeed. Now describing itself as a "pub and kitchen", it did feel a bit Boho and slightly trendified, but not in too much of a bad way. Sadly this was a rather brief visit as the last port of call heading back to the station but we could happily have stopped here for longer.

Situated to the east to town and not far from St Albans City station, this is a pub which has appeared in the last few editions of the Good Beer Guide and is one I've been hoping to get to for a while.

The pub is basically one large room sub-divided into different sections. The bar itself is off to the left-hand side as you enter. Marston's Pedigree is the regular beer. Guests for our visit were Vale Marathon Runner, 3 Brewers Blonde & Northdown Session Pale Ale. There was also a boxed cider at the end of the bar, which was Sandford Orchards Devon Mist. Craft beers were Brew York Coney & Mad Squirrel Shamrock & Sumo.

The barmaid was friendly and knowledgeable, offering us a CAMRA discount, as she'd already decided we were members! There are better pubs in St Albans, but this is a popular community local, which also seems to hold various beer-related events, such as tap takeovers. Dogs are also welcome.

A traditional pub with a carpeted dining area to the right and the tap room left,which was a bit scruffy and worn.There are some high tables in the windows,bench seating opposite the bar but no flatscreens or fruit machines but a decent atmosphere and a friendly welcome.
The handpumps were offering Oakham Citra,Marston's Pedigree,Harvey's Sussex Best and Vocation Naughty & Nice (good milk stout,NBSS 4) with another brew being pulled through but not ready for dispense.
Food is offering Tuesday to Saturdays at meal times and features a lot of Veggie options at reasonable prices .There is quite a large beer garden with an awning to the side of the pub.
Worth including on any real ale tour of the city ,the best option near the station.
