The Oaklands, Hoole, Chester

A large Victorian building modernised on the inside to an open plan if odd shaped form. Entering from the front car park brings you face to face with a pool table, ahead are two counters although the first with its four pulls appears unused except to advertise their Christmas offer (in September!). The second is longer and has three pulls with Greene King IPA, thin and smelling of compost, Abbot and Old Speckled Hen were clipped but not on. There’s a low T-Bar and two trios which have the standard range of Latin-ish /UK lagers, Guinness and ciders. It’s a Hungry Horse and lived up to my expectations of one of those outlets. Lots of seating for eating, machines of various types, screens, ankle biters and mediocre beers. It even boasted a pub loony and apparently it’s “where everything is epic”, ….no.
