Blue Scrumpy left this review about Market Inn
The Market Inn is situated a bit out on a limb these days, being next to a new retail park. But it is still very close to the railway station. I initially attempted to visit late on a Tuesday evening, but arrived to find it closed. I wasn't sure whether it had closed for good, or whether they had decided to close up early because it was quiet. Staff and customers in the nearby Twa Dugs suspected the latter.
Driving past just before 11am on the Thursday, I noticed that the door was open. Ever an opportunist, I decided to stop and pay another visit. This time I got in.
The pub is a single room with a central bar. As noted below, there are some very traditional features. CAMRA records it as having a pub interior of specific national historic interest.
Real ales are no longer available. The keg choice is Tennent's Lager & Caledonia Best, Guinness, Heverlee, Bud Light & Magners & Magners Dark Fruit.
Being a Thursday morning, there was only us, the barmaid and one other customer. Whilst it is a nice drinking environment, the lack of decent ale would discourage me from any future visits should I ever find myself back in Ayr.

A very old traditional pub, which still has brass water dispenser on the bar although only one, is working. There is a grove-tiled trough built into the floor at the circular end of the bar where visiting farmers would rub their boots to clean of the mud as the barmaid informed me. The toilets are straight out of the Arc and help to keep with the old style of the pub. The pub interior is a Regionally Important Historic Interior on website http://www.heritagepubs.org.uk/pubs/pubguide.asp?Country=Scotland&County=Glasgow+and+West+of+Scotland&Town=Ayr&PubName=&TownName=&PubSort=Location&PubSearch=Search+for+all+historic+pub+interiors
