Now a community owned pub, it has had a complete refurbishment following years of neglect by the previous PubCo owners. Comprising two rooms, when entering from the front there is dining to the left and the bar to the right. The bar is decorated in traditional style with cream walls above the dado and green below, partially carpeted beside the counter, board elsewhere. It is furnished with a mix of Britannias, wooden and cast iron based tables with seating at chairs, stools and padded benches, there are a sofa and armchair as well. The décor is of hop bines and plants with mirrors and a few pictures etc. A piano sits in one corner and the piped music is not the usual chart hits of previous decades. The counter provides two triple T-Bars with a more interesting choice, including a Turning Point beer and a house badged Pilsner. There are three pulls with a fairly standard selection of local favourites Theakston’s Best Bitter and Taylor’s Landlord plus Fyne Ales Jarl which I took to be a guest, it was in good condition. The usual wines and spirits are available. There is a cask ale club on Thursdays after 4pm with pints at £3.50 or 3 for £10. The cafe is open 10-2 Friday- Sunday and the bar from 4pm Wednesday and Thursday and from 10am Friday to Sunday, a local shop is soon (Jan 26) to open in the pub.

Roomy village pub just outside the entrance to the tourist destination of Newby Hall. Two tastefully decorated bars, one a standard but comfortable Public with a darts board and a pool table, the other more a formal dining room although it is labelled as a lounge bar. A "Jennings" tied house with three sets of three pull beer engines, sadly only chilly Cumberland Ale available plus the usual kegs. GL cider and Marston's variety of Smooth are also there. The Cumberland was distinctly appley (acetaldehyde) once it had warmed to drinking temperature, that's probably down to Marstons who have wrecked what was once a great beer. The food here is very good, a range of prices and certainly good value. Service in the lounge was much more restaurant style than village local.
