The Green Man is a food led family friendly pub so there’s a large car park up the left-hand side, and by the car park entrance is a patio with a covered smoking area. At the rear is decked seating before a massive grass covered beer garden with lots of picnic tables and some children’s climbing apparatus. Entering from the car park, the door opens into a bar area that is enclosed by white painted brick walls and columns and a serving counter to the right. Standard and premium keg were available from the polite barmaid alongside Neck Oil and two of the three hand pumps were in use drawing Wainwright Amber and Milestone’s Wicked Witch. A pub co food menu is available so I plumped for the Festive Baguette ‘with all the trimmings’ which was just turkey, lettuce and cheese with a small pot of cranberry sauce, which is about as festive as the summer holidays. There are a few different seating areas in the rear of the pub, all of which are geared towards dining. Muted televisions throughout were airing Tennis while some background music played. The much smaller front section feels like a public bar with a pool table and dartboard to the left and seating the right. The same draught is available in this section as previously listed. I think I’ll probably try another pub next time I’m in the area.

A very nice, recently refurbished red brick village pub near the station. As your enter there is a mix of comfy and traditional seating to the right and a games area with pool table and dartboard, and the main pub and restaurant area to the rear, and large patio and then lawn to the rear and a smoking shelter to the side.
Amongst the drinks, two banks of four handpulls offered Pedigree, Black Sheep, Hobgoblin and Hobgoblin Gold, and a Wychwood Christmas beer had just finished. Tap offerings also included Brewdog Punk IPA and Shipyard APA. A pint of Hobgoblin cost me £2.70, though had I come on a Monday instead I would have paid £2.50 under their all day real ales offer. There is also a quiz night on Mondays, steak night weds and curry night Thurs. A Sunday roast costs £8.49.
So many village pubs seem to come a cropper trying to be all things to all people and ending up losing any identity, but they seem to have made it all work really well in this one. It had a very welcoming feel to it and I’d happily return here when in the area.
