This traditional country pub on a prominent crossroads hasn’t changed in decades, and entering does feel like stepping back 50 years. Apart from the prices, of course. There is large car park at the side and a small garden. Inside, there are two traditional bars, though only one, the small public bar on the left, was in use when we visited. On entry you are greeted by a large sign that says “Cash Only”. There were 5 barrels on stillage behind the bar, two settling, and the others dispensing Potholer, Gorge Best and Butcombe Original by gravity. On tap were Mallet’s Cider and Underfall. Bottled lagers were also available, but given that most of the conversation amongst the locals was about real ale, it isn’t very popular around these parts. Microwaved pub grub was available, a token modern touch. Definitely worth a visit, though opening times aren’t extensive.

Blackthorn _ left this review about Hunters Lodge

A terrific unspoilt traditional pub well worth searching out. An old tiled fireplace, flagstone floor and a small but very well kept beer garden all make for a most enjoyable visit.

Food was basic, but nonetheless very appetising and hearty. All the dishes came with big doorstep sliced of buttered bread. All the staff seemed very friendly.

Beers on this occasion were Blindman's Mine beer, Potholer, Butcombe and Glastonbury's Lady of the Lake. Ciders were Blackthorn and Wilkins Farm cider straight from a barrel sat on the end of the bar.
