After going bust during the Covid epidemic, this pub finally re-opened in 2024. It's now an outstanding village local which offers just about everything you could want in a pub. There is a large car park at the front and a garden at the side. Inside, it's been opened out to form a large, irregular-shaped interior. The main bar area has flagstone floors and is heated by a large woodburner in a double-sided chimney, behind which is the main dining area, also flagstoned. A carpeted snug with comfy chairs and sofas has an open fire with a tv above it as is focus, though paradoxically this area is also open plan; it looks like they tacked someone's sitting room onto the bar. There is a games area with a pool table and dart board, leading to the garden. The main bar also has a TV screen, though like the one in the snug this was switched off when we visited. The bar counter was formed from cheap pine and looked a bit out of place, but functionally it was good enough. There was a 4-tap beer machine dspensing Exeter Avocet and Salcombe Shingle Bay, both in perfect condition, and Devon Pride Cider, which we didn't try; the fourth pump was dry. On keg were Guinness, Thatcher's gold and Haze, Sheppey's 200, Peroni, Madri, Pravha and Atlantic. Water was provided for dogs. The young barman was very helpful and chatty, while several of the locals were sociable, all of which made for a very welcoming, convivial atmosphere. Food is freshly cooked and reasonably priced, and it includes theme nights and Sunday roasts. Being really picky, the one fault it has is that the opening hours are limited, otherwise this would have been a 10/10. I'll definitely be back.
