The Recruit has a front bar area with a large central L-shaped serving counter that supports standard keg and Greene King’s attempt at the craft lager market, Prior Life. There are also two hand pumps at the disposal of the friendly barman that were drawing GK’s Fireside and Dark Star’s Hophead. There are small tables around the external walls, but it’s mostly standing room. In the right rear corner is a dartboard and in the left rear corner is a pool table, separated from each other by internal walls. There was some background music playing, but little else was happening during a recent Tuesday evening visit when there were two other customers. A local boozer that those from out-of-town probably wouldn’t bother with.
