Village pub on the edge of Winterley, this place didn't look too promising when we arrived into the car park to the rear of the building. There were a few smashed up cars and quite a bit of debris. Empty glasses had been left on an outdoor table, seemingly from the previous day.

Heading inside through a rear door, our impressions didn't get any better as there was a rather unpleasant smell probably emanating from the handful of locals sat in the one corner.

The interior does feel very cosy, if not a little worn. There are some low beams with horse brasses scattered around. The room is a rectangular shape with real fires at either end. There are also TVs at either end. The locals were sat around one showing the darts, whilst the one at the other end was showing live FA Cup football with nobody watching. One end is tiled and the other is carpeted. The locals' end also had a dartboard and a games machine. Dominoes were available behind the bar to play and a wifi code was also available.

On the bar, both Tetley's & Landlord were available on cask. SALT Alpacalypse was on keg, alongside Aspalls & Rekorderlig. The young barmaid was having problems with the Rekorderlig. It soon turned out that a guy sat at the bar who had said hello when we arrived was the landlord. He went to sort the issue out. It appeared that whoever had set up hadn't pulled the ciders through. Probably the same one who should have spotted the empty glasses on the outdoor tables!

A real mixed bag this one. It's cosy, traditional and friendly. Real ales aren't too adventurous and I'd have to question the cleanliness of the place and its customers. The owners probably can't do much about the customers but they could give the external areas a bit of a spruce up. Has potential but is not quite realising it at present.
