This place was a bit too red for my liking. Although, it does make it easy to locate. The pub/hotel was my abode for the evening in Bala. I have to admit to not fancying a drink in here but I did have a breakfast in the lounge the following morning.
There are a couple of handpulls at the end of the bar but both were unclipped. That left the keg selection to be Madri, Carling, Carling Black Fruits, Sharp's Cold River, Guinness, Coors & Worthington's. Hence my reluctance to stop and have a drink. I chose the bed option instead.
The lounge/dining room appeared to be popular with local women, especially the older ones. Children and dogs are also allowed in. The bar is more the haunt of the men. When I arrived, there was a queue of around 6 people taking turns to throw their darts. There was also a covered pool table and at least one TV. To the rear is a covered patio area favoured by smokers and a car park beyond that, accessed from Mount Street.
Rooms are very basic but extremely good value compared with other Bala accommodation. I'm not one for having any heating on when I'm sleeping, which was just as well, as I don't think my room had any! Breakfast was good and really filled me up for another day of pub research.
I'd definitely choose to stay here again if in Bala, as it was great value. So, my rating only accounts for this venue's function as a pub.

Town centre hotel with smart lounge and separate public bar which supports and is used by the towns sports clubs. A short term Real Ale gain, now lost again.
