Will Larter left this review about The Blue Lion
An old fashioned stone built hotel, that may have started life with pretensions to rather more grandeur, and would probably be horrified to know it was being reviewed for a pubs website. The white-painted front door doesn't appear to be in use, the entrance now being in a corner between this building and the one to its right. This leads straight into the main room, with the bar at the rear. It seems like a very nice room, and if I'd had the time and the space I'd have sat down and written a description of all its features. As it was, every table was fully occupied at the time of my late lunchtime midweek visit, by people with more money than me who were eating the very expensive food and no doubt drinking the very expensive wines that were listed on the blackboards on the walls. I just went for a half of Black Sheep, one of three beers available (see photo) for which I was not too pleased to be asked to pay £2.00. Not seeing anywhere to sit I went outside and sat in the warm sunshine. (I discovered later, when seeking the toilet, that there is in fact a further room inside.) Service was polite and efficient enough, but I felt distinctly out of place in my cycling garb and my impression of Black Sheep Bitter is that the more expensive it is, the worse it gets. (The best I ever had was at Bainbridge's Rose & Crown, where I was charged the "locals price" because I'd been kept waiting and the server wasn't wearing his uniform!)
