A splendid building in the streets off Cardiff's main drag, it's not hard to see where this pub got its name from. And it's great to see a glorious building finding a new purpose; just a pity it's such a poor excuse for a pub. Actually, it's not a pub, it's a sports bar. Being part of the Greene King empire is arguably not doing it any favours either. I had Wye Valley Butty Bach, the solitary guest ale on the five hand pumps: disappointing to have paid as much as £2.10 for a half of a rather poor beer that was very much a last resort for me - GK IPA and Abbot (both doubled up) were the alternatives. I drank up quickly and made my way around the corner to the Cottage for their very well kept Brains Dark at only £1.45 for a half.
