Decent cask offering of five hand pumps providing Theakston Old Peculiar, Jemima’s Pitchfork from Glamorgan Brewing, Wadworth 6X, HPA from Wye Valley and the Calder Lollipop from Tenby Harbwr Brewery. Keg offering of Heineken, Moretti, Inch’s, Guinness and guest Chasing the Sun from the Tenby Brewery.
This is an amazingly atmospheric, stone inn with original stone flooring. My entry point had a right-angled bar counter with some tall stool seating on one side and then a tall, backed bench serving a regular table to the left of an old fireplace with fire burning bright even on a bright late afternoon. On the stone wall opposite the bar counter facing the entrance were a couple of seating ledges serving regular tables with old wooden chairs the other side thereof. Through a narrow passageway to the right of the fire grate is a carpeted seating area with church style high backed benches serving regular tables, with the space containing another fire grate that did not house a fire on my visit. This leads to another carpeted seating area with tables laid for diners that winds round to further seating areas including one that houses another bar counter but with no taps or hand pumps that provided a bar staff internal walkway to the main bar counter back by the entrance. There is a small snug that provides a large table that could be the closest this place has to private dining occupied by a group on a retirement do on my visit. The venue has a low beamed ceiling, and the stone walls and small windows keeps a cosy ambience even on the brightest of days. There is an upstairs restaurant, but I didn’t go up to check. Outside there is a paved seating area at the front with traditional picnic bench seating and a reasonable amount of cover. A bit of a trek but well worth it.

Comes with a bit of a reputation so was looking forward to it. A rambling old thatched place, loads of rooms, bare and whitewashed stone walls, nooks, crannies and quite homely in a well-worn way - fabulous. Four ales on plus some ciders; Theakston OP, Wadworth 6X, Wye Valley HPA and Tenby Harbour Pale. This is where the wheels fell off a bit as I got an NBSS 2.5 beer, barrel end (maybe?), but a flatish watery mess in a heavily pitted glass which was only fit for the bin. Mrs Quinno went for a Gwent Y Ddraig cider. As an experience it’s well worth a stop but my beer let the side down. On another day I might have tried another but the heavily pitted glass made me think better of it – little things like that make the difference between a good pub and great one…
