A whiff of stale tobacco smoke greeted me, presumably from the habitual congregation of smokers around the entrance rather than anything illegal, but it was like a blast from the (unpleasant) past. Once inside, I was disappointed to find that, of the three hand pumps on the bar, only Hartleys XB was on, though as this is a former Hartleys pub it was not out of place. The beer itself was a further disappointment, developing a more and more apparent banana-ish taste as I drank, indicating a very tired beer indeed. Add to this the very loud heavy metal music and the notices ("Toilets are for customers only" in the porch, "Behave or be banned" on the board inside), and I think it is by now clear that this pub will not be anywhere near the top half of my list for a visit next time I'm in Kendal.

Stayed here for 2 nights on a recent visit to Kendal, accomodation ok for the price I payed.
Gaffer was friendly enough, even though the bar was very quiet, but it was midweek, look out
for the cat, she's enormous.
