My last visit to the village of Hurst was back in the summer of 2011. Last time, I visited the currently closed Green Man. This time, I was here to try the Castle Inn. Situated on a sharp bend opposite the village church (cars come ominously close to you if you sit in the corner of the bar), the pub has a couple of rooms inside and a bowling green outside, adjacent to its car park.
3 real ales are offered. On our visit, these were Sharp's Doom Bar, Hook Norton Hooky & Rebellion Adventurer. Staff seemed to be fairly amenable, with a fairly jovial barman and an accommodating chef who was still willing to cook another meal for one customer just 15 minutes before they were due to close for the afternoon at 3pm.
A decent village pub.

Massive improvements here over the last couple of years since GK handed back the lease to the local church opposite. Two or three local beers on offer in good nick. Though the place is aimed at the upmarket foody brigade, to be fair the grub is good. Bit of character inside. Crown bowling green to rear. Worth a visit.
October 2010
Leased from the local church to Greene King. Has been open and shut more often than I can remember with a succession of 'temporary' landlords. Shame, as it's a nice old building with a tidy rear garden and olde worlde interior touches. Occasionally GK IPA or Brakspear Bitter is spotted.
