Excellent traditional boozer with a truly unspoilt atmosphere. A corridor gives access to a simply-furnished bar room on the right, with a roaring fire and wall-mounted seating. A further room opens out to the back of this, equally traditionally furnished. No food beyond bar snacks and no hint of gastrification, and no other concessions to modernity. Three beers came from Yorkshire Dales brewery, I tried the best bitter which was excellent. Quiet on a Sunday afternoon with mostly local punters and just the sound of the crackling fire. Teesdale is great walking country and a visit here is thoroughly recommended.
