Now has a brewery on the premises and were serving two of their own beers alongside 4 guests on our recent Saturday evening visit. Very quiet though for a Saturday. I have to say that neither of their own brews were really to my taste, but they were well kept as usual. We'll be in again next time we're in Hull.

This is possibly the best pub in Hull, especially for the real stuff. At least 6 rapidly changing ales on at any time. Very friendly staff & regulars, quick efficient service. Often has live music on in the side room, also has a quiz night. What's not to like. Usually call in here for one and end up staying for three. It's that sort of pub. It appears to be built on a wormhole, where hours disappear without you ever noticing. It's a great pub.

In a rather uninviting residential area of terraced housing in Hull, north of the City Centre and close to where Beverley Road meets the Freetown Way, is The Wellington Inn, which, so I understand, is generally regarded as being Hull’s beer exhibition pub.
The pub dates back to 1865 and features an attractive mock-Tudor black and white exterior. Inside we find a relatively spacious single room with a central L shaped bar and something of a more modern feel than might be expected. The interior features light pine flooring, a burgundy coloured beamed ceiling with spotlights and a mixture of high stools and tables and more traditional seating in a side area. The walls are decorated with a fine collection of beer labels, pump clips and bottles on a high shelf. Of particular note is an unusual glass fronted walk in beer fridge running alongside the bar that stocks a wide variety European bottled beers from Germany, Belgium etc.
On site brewing commenced a year or so ago and an enjoyable pint of 1st Duke – which was apparently the first beer they ever brewed – went down well. Several other beers were on, together with a few beers from other Yorkshire breweries, which, sadly, I don’t appear to have made a note of. The pub has been a CAMRA Good Beer Guide regular for a number of years now – these obviously precede the commencement of home brewing. It’s also won numerous local CAMRA branch awards.
I find this pub difficult to sum up on a single brief visit. It’s evidently run by beer enthusiasts for beer enthusiasts and, were it in, say, London or Manchester or Leeds, it would undoubtedly have been packed out on a Thursday evening. Yet, on my visit, there were only a few locals propping up the bar and a welcome that might best be described as indifferent.
It’s reasonably convenient for the station and, on balance, I’d probably give it another go if the opportunity arose. Finally, do note that they don’t open till 4pm on Monday-Thursdays.

Unexciting from the outside, and not in the most salubrious area, but inside you will find an excellent beer exhibition. A nice large L-shaped bar with some tall tables, and a smaller room with lower tables, all surrounded by a vast collection of bottles, beer mats etc. A good range of beers and ciders, with some of their own brewing. Look for the glass-fronted walk-in beer chiller room, full of Belgian beers and the like. A good traditional feel, with no TV or similar distractions, but regular events such as quizzes, poker night, live music etc. Well worth the short walk from the centre.
