The Parsons Collar, Fareham

A good modern pub, part of the Solent Hotel complex but distinct from their bar in the neighbouring hotel. They offer a standard pre-prepared pub menu, so I’m not sure I’d seek it out specifically to eat. The young staff were enthusiastic and helpful, and the other customers were a mixed bag, but it was a civilised place to send time. There is a large TV on the wall of the main bar, while some tables had a smaller set immediately next to them. All these screens were showing football when we visited, but I wouldn’t call it a sports bar, and there was no rowdy behaviour. Run by Thwaites, three of their ales were on offer – IPA, Original and Gold, all in excellent condition. Also on tap were Paradise No 3, Moretti, Fosters, Aspall’s Cider, Guinness and Prahva. Not bad as these places go, and we certainly had a good evening here.
