Dating from the late 18th century, this was the Two Brewers until 1995, with the current building probably dating from the late 19th century, the wood panelling to the rear room applied in the 1930s.
A modernised interior with new floor, new wood and glass bar back, trendy prints, plush furniture with some booth-style banquettes upholstered in lemon yellow vinyl; in all, it looks like a hotel bar, which of course is exactly what it is. Customers were rather young and fairly numerous on my late Saturday visit, probably students from neighbouring South Thames College – if they hadn’t taken over the panelled rear, I’d have ventured in for a squint.
There was just London Original and Special on cask which I couldn’t face drinking, so it was a Neck Oil at £3.65 a half.
This is another very corporate affair, typically done up by Young’s with little regard for the authenticity afforded to their wonderful Spread Eagle at the bottom of the road.

This is a prominent street corner pub, high moulded ceilings, panelled walls plus some patterned wallpaper. The front two rooms are divided by a large chimney with an elaborate fireplace but unfortunately a replica gas fire. Another room beyond and to the rear serves as a formal dining room with laid tables. Outside seating with cover to the side plus another hidden away stand alone room called "The Moroccan Room" presumably due to the North African inspired décor.
The pub has had a bit of the makeover treatment, boarded floors with rugs, all sorts of seating and with scatter cushions along the banquettes. There are a few arty prints here and there and the side room has a rather curious large ceiling mounted clock. Part of the patterned moulded ceiling had been replastered smooth, which looked a bit naff, I assume some sort of water damage to blame. A cheap and shoddy repair though.
Live football was showing during my visit, several TVs dotted around, there were a noticeable number of wives and girlfriends who appeared to have been offered a Sunday lunch out without the football being mentioned, a fair few were flicking through their phones and gazing blankly while the blokes watched the match, it amused me in any case.
It's a Youngs pub, Ordinary and Special on plus new to me, Hummingbird (£3.79) which I took a chance on despite the clip advising it contains passion fruit, it was ok a hoppy floral light beer.
A pub quiz was advertised and I saw signs for accommodation. A fairly routine middle of the road sort of pub I thought but it's a big one so probably a decent chance of getting a seat when the football is on.

This is still a Young’s house, with Bitter, Special and Waggledance on. Food is clearly a big deal here, as a large room at the rear of the building is clearly intended for diners as all tables in there came already laid with cutlery, wine glasses, etc. Most of the tables in there were occupied during my Thursday lunchtime visit. This is a large imposing corner site pub, which also had two sizeable rooms for those who just wanted to drink – however you could eat in these rooms if you wished, as a group of young ladies were doing just that. As I wasn’t eating I didn’t bother to look for a menu.
The polished granite columns on the exterior indicate that this is a pub of longstanding, as nobody these days is likely to go to the expense of erecting such iconic symbols of a pub. But inside it’s been given the Young’s makeover treatment. Leather sofas and armchairs abound; there are a few tall tables/stools, some solid chunky tables, and some normal tables and chairs make up the furniture inventory. The floors are bare-boarded with some large rugs breaking up the space. However, the dark wood-panelled walls and at least one (I only saw one) fireplace are attractive features. The service was very cheery, and I guess that this is a very comfortable pub in a hotel lounge sort of way. It’s no longer a traditional pub, but worth dropping in for a swift one if you’re passing.
