After a brief return visit to Poppy & Pint, I took the 10-minute walk to another Castle Rock pub in West Bridgford, the Stratford Haven. Being close to the City Ground, the pub was very busy on a match day. There were bouncers on the door and plenty of bar staff to cater for the thirsty crowd.
Luckily my arrival coincided with most people's departure for kick off. So, I was able to grab another swift half quickly. The pub has some nice traditional features and is listed in the current Good Beer Guide.
Regular Castle Rock beers on cask are Harvest Pale, Preservation, Screech Owl, Elsie Mo & Our House. Their Snowhite was also available. Guests were Pentrich Melt Me Down & My Poor Brain, Bateman's XB, Wiper & True Milk Shake & Black Iris Snake Eyes. The cider was Ascension Mothership. Craft beers were Castle Rock Session & DDH Pale: Citra, Deya Steady Rolling Man, Two By Two Dreamland Pale, Vault City Triple Fruited Mango, Brew York Coney & Nightmare of Brew York 2025, Pomona Island Factotum & Athletic Run Wild IPA. All beers are listed on TV screens above the bar.
Quite a good pub this. A bit too busy for my liking on matchdays (presumably cricket games too) but that's understandable. A worthy last pub of 2025 and the appropriately named My Poor Brain was a nice hazy number for my last beer of 2025.

The Stratford Haven, or Strat, is an L-shaped Castle Rock pub with seating to the right of the entrance and a long central bar counter that runs up the left facing a beer shelf up the left wall. More seating is found at the rear where access can be gained to a beer garden with a covered decked area and thin strip of seating down the side of the pub. The bar supports fourteen hand pumps, during a recent midweek afternoon visit two were off and eight were drawing CRB beers. The guests were Abbeydale’s Summer, Ossett’s Excelcius, Okell’s Bitter and Black Iris Brewery’s Rise & Shine. The service from the barmaids was very friendly and the Okell’s was OK. Food stretched to bar stuff, I thought £3.50 for a cheese and onion cob was a bit pricey. There was a decent crowd in for the time of day, and the atmosphere was good so this pub is on my return list.

As with all Castle rock pubs this one scores very highly in all areas with a great selection of beers from castle rock and several guests. My Pint of Black gold (£2.80) was in brilliant condition and okm for the price but This part of town ups the price on beer including the Wetherspoons which annoys me a little, all other Castle Rock pubs sell it at £2.50 but maybe i am being a little picky.
The pub itself is warm and inviting and sticks to the Castle rock style seen in their other pubs such as the vat and fiddle, lincolnshire poacher and bread and bitter. A great find and well worth the 10 min stroll from Trent bridge.8.5
