The Fox and Hounds is a large plain brick standalone pub right next to Carlton Station. The pub looks quite large from the outside and can be entered via doors on either side of the building. Judging by the size from the outside I’m pretty sure there must be another room/lounge area that I did not see (Or most likely was not open or goes unused) as the only inhabited room was the main bar. This was a plain square room and was all hard wood with the bar running up the right hand side. There is a pool table at one end that most of the customers congregated around with a tv at the other showing music videos. The decor was very plan but also very old and looked very worse for wear and need of a bit of a clean. Home Ales would be disappointed but not surprised to see that their former pub no longer sells real ale with just the usual drab keg products on offer at fairly reasonable prices including John Smiths at £2.60 and Tetley’s at £2.40. As bad as keg Tetley’s is this was a vile drink, the creamy white head was almost non-existent with just a few loose bubbles, obviously the is no one drinking this in here as they (like I should have done) go for John Smiths. Overall this is a very poor pub with terrible drinks and a very unfriendly local atmosphere, when me and my friend entered we did get a big looking over from a fair few of the pool loiterers. I won’t be rushing back here in a hurry and will stick to Carlton road in future as there is nothing much around here worth going to.
