The Gate Hangs High is a Hook Norton pub on a crossroads, seemingly in the middle-of-nowhere, to the north of Hook Norton about a mile and a half from the brewery itself. The interior is plain with laminate flooring exposed stone walls throughout and a dining area with a couple of rows of tables under a vaulted ceiling to the left. In the bar area to the right the serving counter across the rear wall faces a couple of tables across the front and more tables to the right where there’s a dartboard next to an inglenook that had a burning log fire. I didn’t spot a television, but there was some background noise courtesy of a radio station. A door to the left of the counter opens to some stairs down to the toilets and down some further steps is a courtyard surrounded by apartments beyond which is a large grass covered beer garden with picnic tables and children’s climbing apparatus.
On the bar in the pub were standard and premium keg products alongside four hand pumps that were badged with HN’s Hooky, Off the Hook and Double Stout alongside TT Landlord, although the stout was off. It was very quiet during a recent midweek early afternoon visit, but the polite barmaid did inform a caller on the phone that they were fully booked, so the quietness must have just been due to my time of visit. There’s not much going on here, so I don’t think I’ll be stopping if I find myself driving past again.

High indeed in a windswept location on the Cotswold escarpment. Little changed since AW's visit, the bar is pleasant enough and would be quite cosy with the fire lit, but too populated for comfort on our visit, thus we sat alone in the dining room and enjoyed some attractively served Hooky Gold (the other choice was Old) which was a nice drink.

It is, to be honest, all a bit bare-bones scruffy with junk lying around outside, but not offensively so, and fine for those using the campsite. A plus point is it's open all day, a rarity in these parts.

Alan Winfield left this review about The Gate Hangs High

The Gate Hangs High is a country pub that is situated on the corner of a crossroads about a mile north of Hook Norton.
Once inside there was a small oblong shaped room with the bar facing, the room was bare boarded and had a beamed ceiling, the seating was normal tables and chairs, there was a seperate dining area to the left.
The pub is a Hook Norton tied house and there were three real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Hookey bitter which was very nice drink, the other beers were Old Hookey and Hook Norton Lion.
The pub was fairly busy on our Saturday dinner visit and had a good lively atmosphere.
I quite liked this pub and could have happily whiled away some time here.
