A large stone-built pub in a prominent position in the centre of this affluent village. It’s just far enough off the A38 that it doesn’t get the grockle hoards. There is parking at the front and side. Inside, there is a large restaurant area on the right as you go in, while the public bar is on the left. The latter has floorboards, a large stone fireplace with a woodburner and a pleasant atmosphere, much cosier and more convivial than you might expect. At the rear of the public bar are French doors leading to the garden, which is mostly enclosed and has a lawn with benches and tables. Food is very good quality, mostly restaurant style with one or two pub classics, and as far as price goes, slightly above average. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful, and there were a few locals in which made it feel welcoming. Ales on were Tribute, Proper Job and Butcombe Original, all in very good condition. Definitely worth a visit.

This pub has re-opened for a couple of years, but still serving the same three beers, namely Otter Bitter, Exmoor Ale and Cotleigh Tawny. They did change one beer to something else once; it was, yes, you've guessed it, Doom Bar.
Having said that, it is a very lovely old village pub with beer garden, restaurant, skittle alley, log fies etc etc
