I last came in here a year ago, and nothing has changed - a wonderful old building (wooden floors, original fireplaces)which should be the location for a great pub is used to keep an unsavoury collection of middle-aged, foul-mouthed drunkards off the streets. There was no real ale on, the atmosphere was unpleasant and the bar staff were indifferent.

If an enjoyable town centre crawl looking for decent beer and good company is your aspiration, I would highly recommend avoiding this pub.
