A nice brick building, possibly Edwardian, which has been much extended over the years to the front, back and sides. A lengthy bar is the central feature, with a dining area round a feature fireplace to the right and a larger dining room off to the left. A 21st century refurb has bought in features like a modern bar-back and gastro-pub touches, however they have resisted the temptation to paint everything grey and left the considerable woodwork, err, wood-coloured, which is a refreshing change and adds to the atmosphere. Unsurprisingly the emphasis is on food, which incidentally is excellent if a little pricey, but it still caters for drinkers with four handpumps, albeit only Tribute and the local Thurston's Horsell Gold available mid-Covid - condition very good. Outside there are tables to the front and a garden area to the side, although at time of visit this was occupied by a marquee. Not in the most exciting of locations, off a main road opposite a workshop, but worth a visit, especially if eating. the staff incidentally were both friendly and efficient, which is much better than most.
