I still haven't made it through the door here, as my second visit to High Lane saw me arrive here just two minutes before my bus to Hazel Grove was due, and the A6 is not a road to be sprinting across. As it turned out, the bus was nearly 10 minutes late. At least the pub looks smarter and busier than the last time.

I called in here one afternoon when the lights were on and music was playing but there was no one here at all. I waited around, having time to note that there were six hand pumps with clips showing for Marstons Burton & Pedigree, Jennings Crag Rat, Brakspear Gold and two guests. I checked out the toilets too, out of necessity rather than curiosity. A notice beside the bar suggested that the pub normally closes on weekdays between 3 and 6, but this is contradicted not only by the open door, the lights and the music but also by the review posted below. Perhaps a change of name to the Marie Celeste is in the offing.
