Located in amongst many other bars and restaurants, this looks to be housed in a former shop unit, and whilst it doesn’t appear that big from the outside, it actually extended back some way and was larger than might be expected.

Internally it’s all one large, open plan room, although the rear section was up a couple of steps. In some ways it’s quite rustic in appearance with rough wooden cladding on much of the walls and a black painted ceiling. Furniture was similarly rustic wooden tables and chairs, although there were also a couple of comfy arm chairs and plenty of festoon and fairly light strung from the ceiling. A pool table was at the rear, and a couple of screens were showing the tennis, although this certainly didn’t strike me as a sports bar.

Unfortunately, despite four hand pumps on the bar, only one was in use dispensing Ossett White Rat. There was a row of keg taps on the back wall, but these were unlabelled and I did not see any sign of a menu. Ciders fared no better with just Kopparberg’s Crisp Apple and Strawberry & Lime.

A fairly basic bar with a pool table at the back. It all feels a bit unloved and hints at having been somewhat better in the past. A stack of empty kegs in the middle of the room didn't help and the toilet cubicle was out of use awaiting repair. There were still two handpumps, offering Chatsworth Gold and Abbeydale Through The Hopback; the condition of the former at least was ok. A long wall of kegtaps however were largely out of use with only a few craft options. Opening hours also seem to have reduced and it didn't open until 3. Frankly it needs a firm boot up the backside or I can't see it surviving.

No, this is definitely a bar and not a micropub. It’s a decent sized place and was being well utilised for our early Saturday evening visit. Yes it’s got a sixteen tap wall with several interesting crafty options and four ale pumps on the bar, but plenty of wine and spirits offerings for the ladies and it also does decent coffees. Four ales were on but due to the crowd at the bar I couldn’t photograph them and only remember the Ossett Brewery White Rat Pale Ale and the Hawkshead Lakeland Gold, which were the two we tried and they were in good nick.
