A large beer drinkers' pub with a suitably jumbled interior, thankfully bereft of designer decor or anything else that spoils a good pub. An impressive selection of pump clips round the walls was confirmed by the choice of 5 cask ales - two from Wensleydale, Marble Manchester Bitter, Oakham Citra and Sharp's Solar Wave. A couple of proper boxed ciders and some Lilley's stuff were also available. This was a bit of a relief after visiting some indifferent town pubs and we stayed for a second.

Our final pub of the day in Tamworth was one we had found closed when we visited earlier in the day. For some reason, it opens later on a Saturday than it does on any other day!
This was the only pub we found in Tamworth with a bouncer on the door. Nevertheless, I did like this place too. After an extended crawl around the town, I didn't note much about the interior. I recall it being spacious and quite dark inside, with toilets upstairs. We retreated to the garden to consume our drinks and then had to retreat further underneath an umbrella when the heavens opened. That at least got us talking to a couple of locals also under the umbrella.
Cask ales on were Pennine Zest Engine, Mantle Dark Heart, Salopian Lemon Dream, Skinner's Porthleven & Abbeydale Blood Orange Splendour Pale Ale. Ciders were Thatcher's Stan's Big Apple, Snail's Bank Chilli Jamin' & Lilley's Rhubarb & Mango Ciders & Gladiator. Craft beers were Yonder Stroopwafel & SALT Jute.
Another Tamworth pub worthy of any crawl of the town.

It was surprisingly busy during my recent late afternoon midweek visit to the Sir Robert Peel. Through the door there’s wood flooring throughout and seating in the front right window. A supporting column with beer shelf breaks up this front area and the rear where a long high table sits in the centre faced by banquettes that run up the right under a television. This was off because the jukebox was cranked up for the rock selection. In the front right is an open plan seating area that was closed off, which made the pub feel even busier with everyone crammed into the bar area where the counter runs up the left-hand wall. Standard and premium keg were available and I counted five hand pumps, four of which were in operation drawing Little Critters Brewing’s Vanilla Chinchilla and Turterly Tropical alongside Sharp’s Twin Coast and Good Chemistry’s Golden Age. The barmaid was polite and I was served pretty quick considering the amount of people stood along the counter. I supped my half of uninspiring Chinchilla at the aforementioned beer shelf whilst taking in all the beer and music stuff that’s nailed to the walls. There’s also a large collection of old pump clips around the counter, always a good sign. When some handbags started just behind me, "you're the tightest man I've ever met", I decided to move on. I liked it in here and would have no issue returning.
