A well run and neat two bar village pub in an older style. To the right a comfortable lounge with a similarly furnished but less banquette-y bar on the left. Both are served by a square central servery and there is a connection between the two behind the servery. Just two pulls in the left bar, only a boys IPA from Otter on one, the other unclipped, two in the right hand both with Rudgate beers on. Plenty of standard kegs to go at if you prefer. Elegant wooden chairs at cast iron based tables and leather upholstered banquettes furnish the left hand bar, similar to the right but that has more banquette seating. Mostly old photo décor where it is decorated and mostly carpeted with boards in the raised part of the left bar. Music piped in and a big pull down screen that wasn’t pulled down, handy bus stop outside but the 13 bus service isn’t great.

Good and lively community pub serving village. Entry is confusing, with both doors leading into Lounge Bars. In fact the two separate rooms are joined together around a central island bar. The pub is nicely refurbished, with traditional furnishings and a pleasant change from stripped back modern interiors. Outside, the former car parking spaces have been turned into a pavement drinking area with the addition of astroturf, but there is public parking across the road. 6 cask ales are on offer (check board to see what is on other side of bar) with a mixture of local and far-flung beers, and that sampled was in very good condition (Cask Marque listing). Food is traditional honest English pub fare and very good, but check serving hours. All in all, a respectable village pub and worth the short detour from the A64.
