Dating from 1889, I hadn’t been in here since the summer of 1988, but recall something a little more traditional to what’s now on offer, with Farrow & Ball paint, a white ceiling, modern boarded floor with fluted shades over the bar which has a wire ceiling gantry. Not large, much of the drinking takes place to a ledge, so you can look at the wall or one of only two friends, though neither simultaneously. There are tea lights on tables and dining upstairs, which given the location just off Covent Garden piazza, probably revolves around fish ‘n’ chips, doled out to tourists.
Ales included Tribute, Nicholson’s ‘coming soon’, Ghost Ship, Doom ‘coming soon’, Pride and Proper Job at £2.70 a half and good.
I think I’ll leave this one to the tourists and office workers; Covent Garden isn’t a hotbed of good pubs, but the Nag's Head next door is a better bet.

a very small and fairly dull Nicholsons pub in central London. this kind of pub is ten a penny around here and this does little to stand out. Doom Bar, London Pride and a few other pale dishwaters available tonight.

A traditional corner pub in Covent Garden, handy for the tube station, with the usual one room downstairs and dining room upstairs. Not a bad pub but can get stupidly busy. The draught beer range was Doom Bar, London Pride, Nicholson's house St Austell ale and two from Great Yorkshire Brewing
