The Royal Oak is a small Craft Union pub with banquettes in the front windows either side of the central front entrance. The bar counter runs up the right and more seating is found in the left rear with a pool table and dartboard. The televisions throughout were showing muted Sky Sports News and Racing TV whilst some background music played. Standard and premium keg were available from the polite barperson and the lone hand pump had a reversed Doom Bar clip. Much like Edgeley itself, this isn’t somewhere I plan to revisit.

This wasn't on my schedule, but when I saw that it was now a Craft Union pub I decided to give it a go. It was quite busy, on a day when Stockport County had been beaten by Wrexham in a game that had been on TV. My half of Landlord (the other available real ale being Doom Bar) was poured a good 2cm short of the brim, but I'd already had quite a lot to drink so didn't begrudge the 20p they had done me out of - well, only to the extent of working it out. At £3 a pint it's not worth quibbling about, and I quite like this pub group's pubs: usually smart, comfortable and well maintained, there's usually a good atmosphere too, and this was no exception, despite the result in the football and the amount of beer consumed.

A broken through two roomer with huge TV's all over the place. There's a pool table in a small area at the front and they also have a real fire. Three handpumps on the bar, only one clipped with Hobgoblin and that wasn't on. Bit of a disappointment, especially on a Friday evening. If they don't have beer on then, when do they sell it? It's better than most along here, but nowhere near as good as The Albert.
