Solid village pub. Just the one real ale on - Black Sheep in fine condition. Welcoming staff who really did serve with a smile and in these Covid Times we used the place twice - once for a takeaway Sunday lunch - which was superb and once when we felt braver and ate out on their front pation. 7 degrees, intermittent rain and the first time I have eaten food so good with gloves on.
It was a kick in the teeth to be allowed inside to pay and see the lovely log burner, set to 10 :-)

An old stone building which is set back from the road, with a sloping car park in front and a handful of bench tables. Inside it has been opened up into one large room which surrounds the centrally placed and quite small bar. It is food oriented, as might be expected, and there are two hand pumps (see photo). It was fairly quiet, as they were due to close for a private function and staff were laying out food in preparation. I took my half of Black Sheep Bitter out to one of the benches set in front of the pub; the beer was in good condition and the weather was fine, so I spent a pleasant few minutes here. It's hard to judge on such a brief acquaintance whether I would consider returning, though I have to say that if I arrived by bike again I would definitely be in need of a beer after all those hills, so probably yes.

We went out for the day and ended up having lunch here on a gloomy October day. The women had Black Sheep rather than the Timothy Taylors. I was driving so I made do with a Coke. The food was basic traditional English fayre and thoroughly enjoyable. The Steak Pie was home made and the Haddock was so large it nearly did'nt fit on the plate. Very pleasant staff, nice atmosphere, non smoking lounge and reasonable prices.
