I came here before on a Pubs Galore crawl, 10 years ago. I didn't write a review then, because I knew that half a dozen of my compadres would be doing the same. On my latest visit, a Sunday lunchtime, it was pretty busy but after sitting at a small table near the front window amongst a standing crowd of other people's friends and relations, I spotted a tiny room on my way back from the toilet. Billed as the smallest snug in Great Britain (I think there's one smaller at the Canny Man's in Edinburgh), this space was reserved from about an hour after my visit, so I shifted across. My beers were Black Sheep Best and a dark mild from Triple Point (average NBSS 3.75, £4.80/pint); other beers included Bass, Titanic Plum Porter and Tetleys (not Tetleys) Cask. The rooms at the back of this pub's busy front bar are delightful and well worth a visit. One of the busy young men behind the bar thanked me when I returned my glasses - not all busy pubs manage to do this. With beer quality like this and friendly, efficient service, this pub is well worth a visit.

Riverside pub with a number of different rooms. I spotted 3, but suspect there were more, as I didn't wander too far.
There is a podium near the entrance where you are greeted and shown to your reserved table if you have one, or fitted in somewhere if you don't. We created confusion as we were meeting people already present.
Tetley's Cask is the regular ale. 4 Guests were Abbeydale Reveller, Tapped Brew Co. Sorsby Stout & Allendale Hop On & Golden Plover. Tasting paddles are available.
A cosy and comfortable place where meals are served and families are welcome.

Occasionly on your travels you hit on a bit of a classic and this is one. Even with the too young/uninterested bar staff and the rancid smell from the bogs you can't hide this is a beautiful building in a fine setting with a big choice of good beer. Split into various spaces and sizes its a lovely pub to visit.
