A traditional double fronted pub, the two front rooms almost knocked into one with a pool table in a the back right quadrant, the servery occupies the rear left. There’s a back bar as well which I didn’t explore but it seemed similar to the front, it does have dart board . The two front quarters are comfy seating areas with banquette seating, screen and machine to the left and a numismatists and Notaphilists delight on the right. The counter has five pulls with a selection of more or less national cask brands; on this occasion Black Sheep Bitter (green), Wainwright of some sort (obviously not tried), London Pride and the weirdly resurrected Draught Bass. Usual kind of national keg choice with all the cheapo favourites, Strongbow, Boddies, Guinness, Carling, Heineken, Coors and no longer wife beater Stella. Decor in the left is mostly horse racing derived with pictures and course badges, a pair of boxing gloves in one corner. The other bar has the aforementioned bank notes and coins as well as the brassware that is all over the place. I liked the old traditional round Copper topped tables, the only square ones had boards on as I had stumbled in on dom’s night. A nice revisit to the 1970s in so many ways.

Strongers . left this review about Chester Road Tavern

The Chester Road Tavern has seating under the left and right front windows either side of the central front entrance that is faced by the bar counter. In the right rear is a room with a pool table and dartboard. Another dartboard is found in the room to the left rear where a Monday night league dart match was in progress. The pre Euro 24 England friendly was drawing to a close on the televisions throughout. The service was friendly and four of the five hand pumps were in operation drawing Fuller’s London Pride, Exmoor’s Fox, Black Sheep and Wainwright. I’m a fan of traditional back street locals with Knickknacks and brassy stuff so I liked it in here.

The Chester Road Taveern is just off the town centre and it was a Greenalls tied house when i went in here.
This pub had four different rooms and the room i went in was fairly smart and there were three real ales on here i had a drink of Greenalls bitter which was ok but nothing special the other beers were Greenalls mild and Stones bitter.
