The L-shaped bar counter in the Laird and Dog supports a standard keg range and three handpumps. One was unused and one was off which left the local Tap Out Brewery’s Arthur’s Seat as the lone cask option. This was the seventh pub of my holiday and the first I’d found with real ale. I would find out later in the week that Scotland doesn’t really do cask so the availability here should be applauded. We decided to sit in the seating area down the left side of the bar under the front windows. More seating is found in a raised area at the rear and also in the conservatory which looked to be geared more towards diners. The burgers are £11.95 and being a hotel the doors open for breakfast at 9am. Televisions are found throughout the bar area and Sky Sports is shown. The service was polite and I’d revisit if passing.
