Accessed down a staircase off South Bridge or straight in from Niddry St it’s a cellar bar which majors on live music. The main room has two counters in a long servery, the stage is at the far end of the room. Stairs to the side lead to some more small spaces and toilets. Five pulls with four in action with some Stewarts stuff, an Orkney well past its prime, and a beer from Pilot who are nearby in Leith. A couple of horseshoes have a range of standard and other kegs.

Beer is incidental to this place - it is all about the live music. The atmosphere is pretty good and the decor is as expected, basic but cool; photos of musicians , drinks ad’s, stone floor, artfully distressed counter. The seating is fairly basic too. Definitely got something.

A live music bar in the heart of the Old Town. I'm lucky in that the live music hasn't started yet, but unlucky in that Good Vibrations is on the sound system and my half of Blonde, or session IPA, from Pilot Brewery is pretty sub-ordinary. I'm sitting here admiring the skill of the plasterers who have made the bar counter look like it is made of bricks with ancient plaster peeling off. Time I moved on.
