Situated on the main A470 through Rhayader, this pub was doing a roaring trade in Sunday lunches. The lone barmaid was being kept busy with people placing lunch orders, paying for lunches and dealing with the odd drinker like myself. She was admittedly very efficient and was keeping a track of who was next, even pointing out that the women who had sat down at the end of the bar with 4 large trays of eggs didn't require a drink. "Omelette for dinner?" shouted the local wag.
The front bar here has a very traditional feel. Despite there being two larger rooms full of diners to the side and rear, many had spilled into the bar area. I managed to grab a seat next to the open fire, as the egg lady had secured the stool at the bar.
Being a Brain's pub, The Rev James is the regular beer here. A guest beer was SA Gold.
A pub with a bit of a character, but with too much of an emphasis on food for my liking.
