Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Museum

Traditional city-centre pub, extended at some stage to provide rather more seating and dining space than available in the original bar area at the front (with a patio area out on the square beyond). Dark wood and paintwork throughout. As a Greene King house, the four cask ales on handpump were Old Speckled Hen, the excellent seasonal False Nine (£4.95), Abbot and Yardbird. Would appear to be food-led during the day, but quite calm spot at night as evidenced by the absence of door staff even later on a Friday evening.

An old pub with a rebuilt back end, which forms part of a small shopping development. The interior is a bit jumbled with various pillars and levels but, despite a strong focus on food, it is actually not unpleasant and the punters seemed happy. Being a Greene King pub there is not much ale choice but at least they had Yardbird alongside the Abbot and IPA and condition seemed fair.

Better than your average Greene King pub, maybe, but the beer range is much reduced since I used to come here semi-regularly in the 00s, when I worked in the city centre. In those days the pub was run by Mark Simmonite, who went on to run the excellent Henry's (a victim of redevelopment) and now has Perch and the Dead Parrot brewery. Just three GK beers and a cider on my most recent visits, though to be fair my GK IPA last time and Abbot this were both good quality (NBSS 3.25 on average) though quite a bit short of a full pint. The 10% discount helps but £4.01 for a beer that is nothing like as good as when I used to drink it in the early 70s still seems a bit much. Other than the beer range, not a lot seems to have changed since 15 years ago. It's still pleasant to sit in the peaceful lower room after a bit of shopping in TK Maxx or Waterstones, with the full length windows flung open on a warm day, or sitting outside if that's your thing.
