Presumably once a Tetley Heritage pub, this is a splendidly-traditional place with lots of period fittings, a surprising collection of 11 cask ales (mainly Yorkshire) on handpump and, more importantly, was full of locals enjoying same. They all seemed to be getting on a bit though so you do wonder what the next generation of drinkers will want. Feeling bold, I settled for a Pennine Strawberry Blonde, which was well-kept and very drinkable. A proper boozer with some good beers, which I suspect is somewhat overlooked.

Grade II proper drinkers pub. The first thing we noticed (unfortunately) was the smell. Not too pleasant. Like something had crawled under one of the benches and died. Once pas thus, a traditional bar in a long room with alcove style seating. Monday night was a good time to come - all cask £2.30. And the White Rat was in fine condition.

Covid Special
Briefing at door, led to my table, it's table service only and two in the lav max, card payments at your table, a quiet visit and fairly fast service.
