All quite foody now (fewer mugs as well) and we were banished to the (admittedly well done) covered rear garden. Four cask on, 2x Wye Valley and 2x Bewdley and TTL. My Wye Valley BB scored well at least (NBSS 3.5) so it remains worth a look, but in such a good drinking town as Bewdley it isn’t essential now, which is a shame – but given the bucolic location, I can understand the shift in emphasis at least.

A rather splendid riverside pub/inn and restaurant (the two are kept separate) with the pub to the left. Quite traditional inside; quarry floor tiling, many prints of old Bewdley, inevitable mugs and a choice of seating areas. Pretty glass-covered and flora-heavy patio area to the rear with some riverside seating out front. A nice genial atmosphere pervaded , I could have settled in for a session in here though I noted it filled up quickly so getting a seat at peak times might be a struggle. Five interesting ales at the bar, Bewdley Worcestershire Way (very good for the first of the day, obviously been pulled through), TT Landlord, Purity Goose, Exmoor Fox and Wye Valley HPA. Also an excellent range of bar snacks. The statuesque barmaid gave Desmond something to gawp at whilst I quickly scribbled some notes (I must admit I also had a good look…). A really good little place, well-worth seeking out. (nb – look out for the serving hatch by the bridge which does a mean roast pork, stuffing and gravy bap for under £3!). Rated 8

Along the riverbank to the north of the bridge is this restaurant-cum-bar, which looks to have been put together from two or three cottages from a terrace. They were operating table service, though the place was absolutely dead at mid-afternoon when I was there. The bar has three hand pumps plus two devices for displaying extra pump clips (see photo). I went for the local pale bitter from bewdley Brewery, and it was presented to me beautifully (again, see photo!), but didn't see where the beer was poured from. Anyway, it was in great condition and it would have been a very pleasant pub visit if it were not for some dreadful background music. Looking around, one of the beauties of this place is the view of the river, but it must be said some of the furniture has clearly seen better days, and I did begin to wonder about the business model. I don't know how busy it had been at lunchtime, and I hope they do enough real ale during the course of the day to keep the five beers ticking over. Certainly there was nothing wrong with mine.

Friendly riverside pub with 5 ales available. Seating outside by the river front and a garden to the rear. 2 Bewdley beers plus Wye Valley HPA , Taylor Landlord, Purity Mad Goose. I chose the Bewdley Worcestershire Way which was good.
