Traditional drinker's pub. The front bar has been knocked-through a bit but is somehow still tight and higgledy-piggledy. The grey and black colour scheme is ill-considered as there isn't a huge amount of natural light and our Sunday early afternoon visit on a grey day felt very…Sunday. There’s a pool room off to the side and a nice games room also beyond that, snaking back round the rear of the bar. Plenty of hanging jugs and breweriana in the main room for a bit of tradition. Sunday papers (always a bonus) and a jukey playing random and (often awful) shite – anyone for a bit of IRA sympathising on a Sunday afternoon, via some gansta rap? The final piece of oddness was the local bob-a-job who was mooching around with his trousers slack, cleaning the pub well-into opening time, I presume he gets paid in beer. GBG’23 listed with seven pumps sporting three ales and two ciders. Cask was from Butcombe, St Austell and Sharps and the latter's Sea Fury was a super drop (NBSS 4), pulled-through before serving by a polite old skool guv’nor It's GBG'23 listed and my pint demonstrated why. A real curate’s egg – I wanted to love it but it was just a bit too weird. My missus couldn’t wait to get out and she’s usually alright to tolerate these kinds of places.
