The Cross Pipes is a decent enough looking stone built pub that is just off the town centre.
Once inside there is a single oblong shaped room with the bar facing, the room is carpeted and has comfy bench seating to the right with some chairs, there is a pool table to the left, there was a TV at each end of the room both showing a vintage music channel.
There were three pumps on the bar,two were unclipped, but the pump to the left had a John Smiths Cask pump clip so i asked for a drink of it,but was told we dont do it anymore,so i was left with John Smiths Extra Cold Crap as the only bitter option, this was a really crap drink.
This is a decent locals pub that is let down badly by the lack of at least one real ale.

Double fronted stone build pub a little way out of the centre, but on the way to the Fleece, inside a single open plan room with a low ceiling, but with a pool table dominating the front left hand side and a pull down projector screen on the front right. The bar counter is at the back and has a bank of two pulls at each end with a good selection of UK kegs in between, cask ales are from John Smiths and Taylors. The Golden Best was a bit tired but still drinkable. There are lots of screens and some machines around the place and what furniture there is, is fairly traditional in style. Some of the posters are interestingly done. A pub for locals rather than tourists of any sort I think.

After quite a few temporary landlords, this pub was a bit of a hole. Roughly 18 months ago Fred and Barbara took over and have been slowly making changes for the better to make this a pub worth a vist. All the beers are well looked after, I reccomend Tim Taylors Golden Best- far too nice! Food is available during the daytime during the week.
