Will Larter left this review about The Albert

I was here about five years ago, but somehow neglected to write up my visit on this site. Today's visit was a refreshment stop on a walk with a friend, from Todmorden to Mytholmroyd via the canal towpath. We arrived just after 2pm on a Wednesday and found the place very busy, with a dozen or so people around our age or older occupying the room at the end, where there's a line on the wall marking the height of the 2015 flood. (One of them was kind enough to point out that he'd have been ok, but I would have been well below the water level; I reckon he was fooling himself. We'd all have drowned.

The room facing the bar held a rather more mixed crowd, but everyone in both rooms seemed to be talking at the same time, at the tops of their voices. We just sat at the high table near the back window and concentrated on our beer and peanuts. My Boltmaker was a bit ordinary, truth be told (NBSS Good enough). Other options included Old Peculier with Theakstons Best having just gone off, plus Landlord and Blonde from Taylors. I think I enjoyed my visit five years ago more, when it was a bit later in the afternoon and people weren't shouting at each other, but these are the random factors that make individual visitors form different opinions. We were glad to have found a couple of decent beers and went on our way back down that Rochdale canal.

Old Boots left this review about The Albert

A corner, end of terrace pub with an opened out look although several areas still exist, the counter in the front two parts. Six pulls with a couple from Theakston, three from Taylor’s and Wainwright, two quad T-bars and a couple of solos serve a fairly regular mix of lager, stout and cider. My Boltmaker was above average. Partly decorated in front room style the middle and rear areas are fitted with banquettes, Britannias and wooden stools. A couple of neat light fittings are made from decanters, older style fixtures are evident some probably original. Tile and board floor, flooding has reached this far in the past.

Brainy Pool left this review about The Albert

nicely refurbished traditional pub with piano, that was ticking along nicely with most sat on outside benches. Very much a proper pub which was much needed at this point in the evening. A rather dull cask selection unfortunately and it wasn’t a day for Old Peculier so a quick half of Boltmaker to finish the day.
