Standing on a busy roundabout, the Amsterdam Inn is constructed from bricks and flints in the local style, with a mansard roof. There's a lower extension on the right, which is the restaurant. Enter by the main door and the bar is to the left, with five hand pumps facing, which makes a refreshing change. On closer examination, two of the pump clips are accompanied by "coming soon" tags, so that leaves three: regular Harvey's Sussex Best and St Austell Proper Job, plus local Long Man Mosaic Pale which was in good condition, but a bit sweet for my taste, and my debit card shuddered at the prospect of parting with £3.15 for a half. I saw a few more cask beers poured while I was drinking my beer, which shows the value of putting the pumps to the front. There was cricket on the TV and a pool table and darts up a couple of steps on the way to the toilet. Service was friendly and efficient, and I was thanked for returning my glass on the way out. It's good to see a pub that majors on both food and beer, with appreciative greetings and farewells to their customers. I'm beginning to sound like Trip Adviser, but seriously, this is a good un.

Good choice of bars plus restaurant area. Food choices are quite good and some real ales are available. There is considerable competition from the Red Lion across the road, which I think edges it on the beer quality.

Nice bar and a little lounge next door. Harveys Ale on the pump in good condition, but there is a much better choice across the road at the Red Lion.
