Visited 08/07/26. Visited previously 15/05/18.
Cask here were a couple from Lilley’s, the Bee Sting, and the Mango cider, plus GK IPA, Old Speckled Hen and seasonal quaff 4-4-Brew. Keg offering of Estrella, Moretti, Madri, Guinness, Peroni, Amstel, their own Level Head and Hazy Day.
L shaped GK establishment with some seating outside on the Broadway around the entrance. Bare boarded with a chessboard tile skirt around the bar counter which is a three-sided affair off the wall opposite the entrance. There are some regular tables along the wall opposite the bar counter of different styles and then down the right-hand side leading to a small, carpeted area in the rear right-hand corner with regular tables and chairs and a banquette along the right-hand side. TV’s were switched off on my visit but they were heavily promoting the footy WC, my attendance on the first evening since the start absent any action. An 80’s pop soundtrack was playing. There is a large paved outside seating area off the front left-hand corner with typical wooden patio furniture, a good amount of which has some cover.

An attractive old pub between the town centre and the railway station which has received a typical Greene King makeover. The single L-shaped room features the bar front, ceiling and other woodwork painted in light grey, with some checkerboard tiling on the floor and various industrial-type lighting. The left side is more of a drinking area, with the carpetted right end more aimed at diners. The dartboard mentioned previously has now gone altogether and there are several sport TVs, thankfully not in use. There is also a fair amount of seating outside, including some under cover. Ale-wise there was just IPA on this visit, with one of the Hens clip-reversed, but condition was good. Basically a plain vanilla pub, not really calling out for a visit but adequate if you have to.

The Star is an L-shaped pub with a bar that faces the entrance. To the right of the entrance is some seating and a dartboard that had some tables on the oche during my Monday evening visit. To the left is more seating and I spotted a plasma screen that was showing a reality police program on Channel 5. There was also some background music playing and I noted that food is available all day.
Alongside the standard draught selection at the bar were four hand pumps that were drawing Greene king IPA, Abbot, Dark Star’s Hophead and St Austell’s Proper Job.
I found the locals to be harmless enough, but if I wanted to watch police, camera, action or some other indistinguishable specimen of utter drivel I would have gone for a cup of tea around my Nan’s house.
I would return if passing, if only to see what the atmosphere is like at a busier time.
