Traditional back street boozer. Hobgoblin gold, 61 Deep and Wianwrights on offer. I went for the Gold which was decent - and served in the right glass! Glad to have called in.

This pub features in the 2019 Good Beer Guide and is very much a local community pub, with a variety of traditional pub games and live music at weekends. It was friendly enough but felt a little run down, and the room we took our beer to had children running round and cartoons on the TV. There were 2 Banks beers including Mild, 2 Hobgoblins including Gold, Wainwrights and Eagle Youngs London Gold. Had the Hobgoblin and Eagle beers which were average quality.

A detached cottage-styled Marston's pub with lover level side extension, in white render, with a patio/smoking are at the rear. The pub dates to at least 1845. It has been closed and opened a few times recently and has been taken over again, since the last review.
The interior has two rooms, but three clear areas. The wooden serving bar is located to the right on entry, where there are a few tables and a small fireplace. The extension area was in fact a dining area at one stage, though no longer and ends with a slightly raised area where there is another fireplace. The dartboard is located in this area as well. There is also a small lounge at the back, again with its own fireplace. The decor is a mix of undressed brick, salmon and an eggshell kind of colour, with a white ceiling and beams. A few mirrors and photos decorate the walls, but it seems a little bare. The service has improved under the new ownsership, as has the general atmosphere of the pub. The clientele is mixed and includes families as well. The music was supplied via the radio. I didn't see a TV.
Beer; tap stuff with Woodpecker Cider. Banks's Bitter and a decnt MILD are always on hanpull usually with a guest or two, Hobgoblin at my last visit, along with the ubiquitous Pedigree.
This has always been a regular for me on Bloko visits, though it is a little up and down. It is worth a visit and hope that the present gaffers remain to give it some stability - a bit like the Coventry City of Bloko!
