A Thwaites pub in the West Midlands. In fact it was the first of 2 Thwaites pubs I went to in the West Midlands on a sunny Thursday. Having also found two Acorn beers in Warwickshire pubs the previous day, I was left wondering if the north was launching a takeover of the Midlands!
As an old coaching inn, you enter through the main archway, from where there are rooms on either side, with the bar also to the right-hand side. Most of the seating is actually to the left of the coach track.
The full range of Thwaites beers can be found here - Original, Amber, Gold & IPA. I chose the IPA, which was surprisingly nice. The barmaid was friendly, but the pub was noticeably quieter than other pubs I tried in Sutton Coldfield, with just 3 or 4 other customers. Although live music is advertised and I could imagine the pub getting quite lively for such events.
This one was more of a typical pub than other places I visited in Sutton this time around, but it was a shame that the ale range was restricted to Thwaites only.

Really decent pub with decent beer. Thwaites Gold, Original and Amber plus Hobgoblin. All we tried were excellent. Well worth a visit.

This 2018 entry in the Good Beer Guide is a 16th century coaching inn that retains a lot of it's character with a covered central yard. There is a room tothe left of the yard and 3 rooms to the right with a variety of styles. There were 4 Thwaites beers on the bar, Original, Amber and Wainwrights, and I enjoyed the Thwaites Crafty Dan 13 Guns.
