Nice little Holden's pub. A few friendly locals in when I visited. Only Golden Glow and Black country Bitter on. The Bitter was in good shape. Happy I called in and would visit again.

Update: This pub has lost its external render and is now in undressed stone. I have been several times over the years since it was the Miner's Arms as it has improved dramatically. Still as it was at the respected Aqualung's review.

Feb 2010: A small detached cottage style cream rendered pub with central entrance
The interior is open plan and 'L' shaped around the bar. The decor is white artex, with a few prints, picturea and odd bits of ephemera. There is a fake stone fireplace, at least three Sky TVs and a dart board. It is a locals pub, the clientele were mature, though i did visit the other Sunday and couldn't get in due to the younger clientele packing in for the karaoke. The service was fine, the music at a decent level.
Beer; tap stuff, with Holden's Bitter seeminglt on an electronic caks pump. There was also Abbots on handpull, the Holdens Golden Glow and Old Ale taps and Old Spekky Hen were turned around, as they were the other Sunday.
Not a great beer choice compared to other Holden's pubs, so i would rather go to the Old Mill out of the two, but it isn't a bad place by any means

Being a Holden's pub this was actually the main target of my visit to Lower Gornal and having looked at the reviews I wasn't expecting a lot. However, on the day it turned out to be just as good as any of the other pubs I went to, albeit with a smaller beer range than some. Like most of the pubs round here it was once a public bar and saloon with a tiled floor to the right and carpeted to the left. There was a dart board that was obstructed and I also noticed a TV screen. The beers on the five hand pumps were Holden's Black Country Bitter, Mild, Golden Glow and Old Ale with Abbeydale Riot as a guest. I tried the Bitter (£2.45) which was in good nick and followed it with the Old Ale (£3.35) which was served with a tight sparkler so it came out looking like a pint of Guinness. It tasted superb.
I really liked this one and much prefer it to the Mill up the road which has been rather gentrified and is more expensive.
