The Royal is a fine Victorian pub with leaded windows so walking past I had to venture in thinking I’d mistakenly missed it off my list. The ceiling and walls throughout are painted green and have green patterned wallpaper, and a black and white tiled floored runs across the front where tables with bucket seats are found along the front windowed wall. The L-shaped serving counter also faces high tables before a herringbone floored lounge to the right. Televisions to the left and right were airing muted Champions League football and while some screechy background music played, not my taste at all. The service was polite, but there’s no cask with only premium keg being available alongside Neck Oil and Alpacalypse.

Beautifully ornate Victorian Corner Pub.

Inside, decorated to a high standard in the style of a hotel bar. Some very comfy wingback chairs :-)

Open at 10am - does breakfast - but has no cask at all. Usual Keg uninspired choices.... madri, guinness and so on.

Guinness was ridiculously cold.

Still, posher than my house so possibly worth a visit for a pre-dinner drink.

I have visited here numerous times over the years. Attractive pub well described below. Always seems to be busy. My pint of Hobsons was in good nick. Worth a visit.
